Rainwater - the blue Gold

Long periods of drought, increasing heavy rainfall, medication and nitrates in drinking water pollute and change our environment. For many companies, this also means new business opportunities.

An environmental company impressively demonstrates the possibilities that already exist today for planners, building contractors, plumbers and civil engineers with completely new approaches to solutions.

According to INTEWA, the specialist for rainwater management, water reuse and fire water tanks, using rainwater only for toilet flushing is yesterday's snow, for example. The rainwater is of such good quality that it can be easily processed into drinking water using appropriate technology. No drug residues, no hormones, but soft water in the pipes are just some of the advantages that rainwater offers. To show how good rainwater can taste, the company has brewed its own beer, the Brain Rainwater Beer. Anyone wishing to try it can order it directly from the company online.

Another innovation is the so-called grey water recycling. Slightly polluted shower water is treated and used for flushing the toilet, washing laundry and irrigation. With an average saving of 5.00 €/m³ drinking and waste water costs, this is particularly worthwhile in German residential construction and opens up a new, exciting business field for plumbers. The first systems are even NSF certified and offer a water quality that is difficult to distinguish from drinking water.

A lot of money can also be saved with the infiltration systems, as the so-called sealing fees are now at 1.00 €/m² and more. For a building with 5,000 m² of sealed area, for example, up to 50,000 € can be saved in 10 years with the DIBt approved INTEWA system.

With a sealed area of 20,847 km² in Germany, this would correspond to around 21 billion euros in unsealing potential, a value which at the current market value represents approx. 600 tonnes of gold.

If one now adds up all the potential savings, it becomes clear that the value of rainwater has perhaps actually been significantly underestimated to date. In any case, the "blue gold" is becoming more and more important for entrepreneurs and private individuals!
