Description

INTEWA AQUALOOP Tap during the flood of the century in India

Devastating floods caused by extremely high monsoon levels killed more than 350 people in the state of Kerala in southern India in the middle of this year. More than 1.2 million people were evacuated from their homes and had to be accommodated in emergency shelters. Not only the hygienic conditions in the crisis area quickly became a massive problem, but also and above all the availability of drinking water for the population.

Here, the INTEWA water treatment plant AQUALOOP Tap was brought to the disaster area of Kerala for relief work. There the AQUALOOP Tap was installed in several flood relief centres to provide the population with drinking water.

AQUALOOP Tap works even under the most difficult conditions

As INTEWA has developed the AQUALOOP Tap, a mobile, low-maintenance and currentless water treatment system, the system can be used anywhere for the disinfection of surface water, rainwater and river water to produce clear, disinfected water up to drinking water quality. The cleaning principle is based on an ultrafiltration membrane technology, which retains substances in the water, down to micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses.

AQUALOOP Tap does not require any electrical energy, the entire system requires little space and is easily transportable. Installation is uncomplicated and quick to carry out, as is commissioning. The technology used is completely chemical-free and can be cleaned quickly and easily if necessary. Since the AQUALOOP Tap is also a robust process without precision mechanical parts, which works very efficiently and autonomously and is independent of infrastructural conditions, the system is ideally suited for use in crisis areas - as here in the case of emergency aid in the flooded region of Kerala.

We are extremely pleased that our technology has been able to provide such valuable assistance here and we hope to be able to help in other emergency areas with the AQUALOOP Tap.
