Greywater recycling is economically worthwhile

The treatment and reuse of graywater to produce process water is the winning argument in finding a solution for sustainable water and energy savings.

In recent years, INTEWA's graywater recycling technology has been continuously developed and optimized. Depending on the price of water, the size of the system and whether the heat is also to be recycled, our systems now have very short payback periods. This makes the use of such a system one of the most economical technologies in the building sector at all.

The following sample calculation based on a 10,800 liter/day system for typical water prices in Germany shows how a graywater recycling complete system from INTEWA can pay for itself.

Plant costs

approx. 4600,00 € / m³

Greywater and service water piping system and installation costs

approx. 3000,00 € / m³

Basement footprint costs*

approx. 500,00 € / m³

Savings on potable and wastewater

approx. 6,00 € / m³ / day

Operation and maintenance costs

approx. 1,00 € / m³ / day

Static amortization

approx. 4,4 years

With continuously rising drinking water and wastewater prices and energy costs, this results in highly interesting payback periods. Together with the many other advantages, greywater recycling is nowadays indispensable for new buildings or renovations.

*for 1 m³ processing volume about 1 m² installation area is required.
