| APPLICATION | Surface water infiltration/stormwater management for a sports facility |
| PRODUCT | DRAINMAX Tunnel Infiltration System |
Description
A new sports facility in Clonsilla, Dublin 15 required a robust and cost-effective solution for surface water management. BMS designed, supplied, installed and certified a value-engineered DRAINMAX tunnel system with a total storage volume of 575 m³ across two infiltration tanks.
The project combined high storage capacity with a strong focus on upfront cost efficiency. Clean stone was integrated into the storage calculations, enabling the required volume to be achieved while reducing overall material and installation costs.
Site conditions were demanding: a hard rock layer below the subsoil, restricted access and a tight construction programme required a flexible system design and efficient installation. Multiple design iterations were coordinated with the project engineers and local authority before approval.
The result is a durable, modular and low-maintenance infiltration solution for sustainable urban drainage (SuDS), combining storage capacity, rapid installation and cost-effective stormwater management
Planning
- Total storage volume: 575 m³ (575,000 l)
- System configuration: two infiltration basins
- Completion date: April 2026
- Scope: design, supply, installation and certification
- Special site conditions: hard rock layer below the subsoil and restricted access
- Installation benefit: lightweight tunnel modules (38 kg) with simple overlap assembly
- Structural performance: DIBt-certified tunnel strength supporting axial loads of up to 10 tonnes
