PURAIN Rainwater filter – clean rainwater with minimum maintenance expenditure

The filter technology has long been a major weakness of rain water harvesting systems.

Either collecting filters with very high maintenance costs, or self-cleaning filter systems have been used, which are never as efficient as promised by their manufacturers. INTEWA has looked at this area closely and solved the efficiency issue.

The INTEWA PURAIN rainwater filter is automatically cleaned by the hydraulic jump principle. The guidelines for the PURAIN rain water filter were supplied by nature! At almost every course a stream takes you can see how the hydraulic jump functions. The water flows over a stone rounded by the stream.  When it occurs in the sink, an eddy is created which is called an hydraulic jump. The light and heavy particles are transported to the next level by the power of the water and are then washed away downstream. This hydraulic jump occurs during high rainfall, and these high rainfall events contribute only about 3 % to water yield.
The light rainfalls, that deliver about 98 % of the water quantity, are 100 % collected because of the PURAIN’s clever design. This leads to an outstanding overall effective efficiency of more than 97 % and all with minimum maintenance costs.

The PURAIN rain water filter, sometimes also known as hydraulic jump filter is available for  roof areas ranging from 60 to more than 6000 m². An overflow skimmer and a non-return valve (stipulated in the DIN), which also functions as a protection against small animals entering the tank, is already integrated in PR 100, designed for roof areas up to 300 m².
