Description

Sacramento, CA – Installation is underway for a 2,850 gallon per day Aqualoop greywater system for the State of California’s LEED Platinum DGS Natural Resources Building in Sacramento, CA.  The P Street Building will serve as a new 20 story, 838,000 square foot Department of Natural Resources headquarters.  The tower, which will also encompass a 300 seat auditorium, will be the workplace for 3,500 state employees.  The project also includes a childcare facility to accommodate 120 children, the largest such facility constructed by the state. 

Integrated in the building design is a plan to use at least 50% less water than a typical, comparable building.  Ecovie worked with Glumac engineering in the initial phases of design to evaluate options to meet this objective.  Through computer modeling using greywater and rainwater supply along with projected demand, the decision was made to use greywater recycling, with Aqualoop NSF 350 certified MBR technology.

The detailed greywater system design was completed by Heat Transfer Equipment Company (HTEC) out of Half Moon Bay, CA, Ecovie’s exclusive Northern California sales and design partner. Ecovie is the exclusive distributor in the U.S. for Aqualoop greywater recycling equipment.  Aqualoop is manufactured and distributed globally by INTEWA GmbH of Aachen, Germany.

The Aqualoop system is being installed by Intech Mechanical of Roseville, CA.

The Greywater System Being Implemented

The greywater system is sized with 6 x NSF 350 certified Aqualoop GW1800L units.  The system will treat an average of 2,850 gallons per day from showers, bathrooms sinks, and other sources to be used for toilet and urinal flushing.  The system will contribute to the LEED Platinum building using 50% less outside water than a typical building of its kind.

System performance will be monitored by the building management system and maintenance can be monitored remotely through a proprietary connection.
